Question about sennheiser headphones!?

Okay so I was looking at the hd 598s ad I was wondering if I only use them in an iPod (3.5mm) jack, will I be inhibiting the potential sound quality? Are there any alternatives to better the iPod sound(mini amp)? If so please list. I know theyre for home hi fi use but dies that mean only for amps and musical instruments?
