Would you read a paragraph from the bible if your boss asked you to before lunch?

My friend and another co worker went out to lunch with their boss and they had to read a paragraph from the bible before their food came. Would you do it? What are you willing to do to keep your job? My friend was kinda upset about it but wants to keep his job. I am a liberal and I told him look at it as helping your boss who requires intangible emotional solice to maintain mentally stability.
